What are you working on? Inquiring minds want to know. Are you a writer? If so, are you considering the NaNoWriMo challenge? The National Novel Writing Month challenges writers to write 50,000 words in November. The challenge is to compose your first draft of a novel. The challenge began in 1999 but has grown in popularity, with hundreds of thousands of participants each year globally. To achieve this goal, you must write 1,657 words per day. If you want weekends and holidays off, you will have 20 days of writing 2,500 words a day.

If you decide to take on the challenge, you should register at https://NaNoWriMo.org/sign-up. Once you have completed your 50,000 words, you can upload your novel to their website to win a prize.

Why do this, you ask? Good question. I’ve asked myself the same thing. Sounds crazy but exciting! Last year, I made a concerted effort to write more and counted everything. I didn’t finish my novel, but I wrote 29,196 words in the month of November 2020, and an extra 4,108 words on poems and short stories. The motivation was there. I am grateful.

Maybe you have had an idea for a book and just never have taken the opportunity to write it. Do you dream about it? Becoming an author? I have a novel nearly completed, but I have a second one floating around in my head. Do you? I didn’t register last year, but plan to this year. Will you? Give it a shot if you have a story burning in you. Don’t know where to start? There are many resources available. I just read a great article about NaNoWriMo at https://blog.Reedsy.com/guide/nanowrimo/
