What are you reading?

When reading, where do you gravitate? There is so much to choose from. Do have a particular fiction genre that caters to your whims? Mystery, Thriller, Romance, Historical, Contemporary, Sci-Fi, Cozy, Who-Done-It?

Maybe you prefer non-fiction. Self-Help, Devotionals, Bible Studies, Christian Living, Diet Books, Memoir, Autobiography?

What about Poetry? Do you like old forms? Sonnet, Rispetto, Blank Verse, Rondeau, Haiku? Or new forms from the past century: Kelly Lune, Musette, Hainka, Pleiades, Blitz? Do you like rhyme and rhythm or free verse?

Just a few questions from a writer to a reader.

  1. I should read outside of the Scriptures more. When I do, I tend to read material about the Scriptures. Time is a premium. When I retire, I look forward to reading more history and historical fiction. I would also like to read Agatha Christie’s works. Maybe some science fiction as well.

    1. Scripture and then about Scripture obviously are the best! I like reading about history as well. I have Agatha Christie’s books. They are on my “to be read” list.
Thanks for commenting. I like learning more about my friends. Have a blessed day.

    1. Hi! Thanks for commenting! I read and write both as well. Do you have a favorite poet? Elizabeth Barrett Browning is my favorite.
I love trying out new and old forms of poetry as well as free verse. I really like to try to fit what I am trying to say in a form though. I like the challenge. Do you write form or free verse?

      1. Hey! A pleasure. I’m hesitant to pick favoroties but can say I’m fond of Charles Bukowski’s work.

I’m not familiar with Browning; do you have a favorite poem of hers you’d suggest I check out?

I like trying out different forms, too! I mostly write free verse (incorporating rhyme but not strict) and haiku.

        1. I just checked out a few of his poems. Thanks!
Elizabeth Barrett Browning “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.” First line of my favorite sonnet.
I’m writing a how-to-write poetry series, thirty forms of poetry in each book. Currently, I am working on book six. They are short with an easy approach. I’ve learned so many forms since the pandemic started. Crazy! So fun though. I’ve created a few forms. 🙂

          1. You’re welcome! I just read the full poem. I remember reading it years back now, just had forgotten who it was written by. Truly beautiful; I can see why it’s a favorite. 😁

That sounds really interesting! So many forms. Could you link me to the books? I’d like to check them out.

                1. For sure! I’ll hit you up when the time comes. 🙂 Hopefully soon. I’m one of those writers that has several projects going at the same time.

  2. For fiction I gravitate towards Mystery, Thriller, Suspense, True Crime. My av secular fiction authors are James Patterson, Ann Rule. Dean Kontz Patricia Cornwell etc. Christian fiction I love Frank Peretti, Ted Dekker, Jamie Jo Write etc. For nonfiction I lean towards Devotionals, Bible Studies, Christian Living, Memoir, Autobiography. I know virtually zero about poetry and only know 3 poets by name off the top of my head and that is Frost and Dickenson and Poe. But I cannot off the top of my head name any poem titles.
