Find the Princess

Sunday Whirl Challenge. Prompt words: trudge, empty, rare, powder, wide, track, line, eye, twist, hollow, trance, self

It’s always a fun challenge to write a poem with the prompt words. It’s stretching me, for sure. Although I was able to rhyme and have the same amount of syllables per line, there is no real metric foot. But, challenge complete. 🙂 I have other work to do, so I will leave as it is for now. What do you think?

The Search for the Princess

He’s empty of gunpowder and water;
Searching the forest for the king’s daughter.
The crown prince had chased the villain away,
Telling the princess, “Run! Do not delay!”
The princess was lithe, with a beauty, rare;
With full ruby lips and long golden hair.
The king blamed himself, said he should have known
That men would come for her when she had grown.
But in the king’s eye, she was still a child,
Though the princess blossomed, serene and mild.

The prince scanned the tree line, “Search far and wide,”
The king commanded, “She knows how to hide.”
The prince looked for tracks and found a small smudge.
For the princess moved spritely, daren’t trudge.
He pictured her, how she moved, and her stance.
He remembered her in a dazzled trance.
There, in the hollow with its twisted roots;
And the imprints of the princesses boots.
He found her in the hollow in the mist.
A thank you kiss, an unexpected twist.
