Homecoming

Sunday Whirl Prompt Words: lifetime, years, will, connect, class, awe, place, last, home, relax, share, trip
Always challenging. Always a joy to write!

Great word prompts. Reminded me of homecoming at California Baptist University. So, here’s a brief refection of then and now.

Homecoming

It seems a lifetime ago,
Almost forty years, in fact,
I roamed these halls as a student;
Will I have a chance to connect?

My class reunion is small,
Though people crowd the square.
CBC was quaint back then,
When I was a student there.

I stand in awe at the place,
The campus large, quite a shock.
CBC, now CBU;
12,000 plus, a city block.

The last time I walked these halls
They were quiet and serene;
Here, my home away from home,
Now, popping at its seems.

The atmosphere now vibrant;
Relax, and memories share.
Cherish this trip, each loved one,
At my alma mater there.

Thanks for reading. Did you attend college? If so, where? and have you gone back for homecomings or reunions? Were there huge changes in the size of the campus? Student population?

  1. I attended 2 unaccredited Bible collages. Neither one have the same name as when I attended them. I was at SBC 1997-1999, I was at EBC 2000-2003. SBC was Salem Bible collage. EBC was Eugene Bible collage. Both here in Oregon. Both small. Neither had anything for student post graduation. Never stepped foot on either location after leaving.

    1. I remember you writing about this a few years ago. It was a bit disconcerting. Credits were not received by EBC. Am I remembering correctly?

      1. Yup. None of the credits from either collage were transferable to a master program. Plus neither collage offered general ed classes (Math, science, history etc.) all the stuff required for a normal degree. But I got great Bible, Theology, Hermeneutics etc as that was my focus not math and science I would never use in my career. My bad for not picking up on that important fact they were needed even if never used LOL.
