Secrets Hidden

As I tremble, I step around
The larger rocks. Someone’s been here;
Hidden shelter, not so hidden.

Someone was bound to find my gear,
But they didn’t discover all,
Behind boulders, secrets hidden:

Amongst other important things,
Water, food scraps, basic supplies.
Maybe they’ll ditch my bag somewhere.

But who are they. My hackles rise.
I check my arm. Blood is messy
And dangerous. Animals lurk.

A scrap of cloth closed over flesh
Torn by inch long thorns. What was
Left of my blouse hung loose, tattered.

Job done, I rose. What’s done is done.
I settle in, feeling on edge.
Do ghosts really thrive on revenge?
