Comfort Strategies

What strategies do you use to increase comfort in your daily life?

A quick list. πŸ™‚

I’m not a list maker. However, when I feel stressed, making a list declutters my mind. It helps tremendously.

I take the time to pray. Confession and worship are so good for the body, spirit, soul and mind. It restores me. It’s a declutter of the inner person, a washing of the disease of the world. Some think that praying is boring, but it is far from that if you have a relationship with God through Christ Jesus. Not only do you get things off your chest, but the refreshing is comforting and invigorating.

I put on Christian soaking music and meditate on the goodness of God.

I read my Bible. Favorite passages? Philippians 4:4-9, Ephesians 3:14-21 Psalms 139. If you haven’t read them, I encourage you to do so. A quick google look will take you to those passages. They are so uplifting.

I sit at the piano and play, sometimes sing. Singing is so good for you!!

I hug my husband. His hugs are comfy and I feel safe in his arms.

I listen to my favorite music. This is relative as I love a lot of genres, so it depends on the day.

  1. Talking to Jesus for sure but also, I read or play online games as a way to escape. Making lists adds stress as I know most of what I need to put on the lists will not get crossed off, so I stopped list making. Music relaxes me so I will sometimes listen while I play online games. Funny that writing is not something that bring me comfort. I think because I know if anyone sees what I write it means change. It will be edited and edited more to get perfect and acceptable to others and many times the editing has me feeling like I am losing my voice as it is rewritten in a style that the public wants so writing is not anything that brings me comfort. My drawing does comfort me until mt style is attacked LOL then I withdraw from that. All those things stem from growing up with a mom who never thought anything I did was good enough or even done right. So most of my comfort come from activities I use to escape.

    1. It’s difficult to deal with growing up baggage. I’ll be praying that God will free you from these fetters, dear Teresa.
Writing is work. Hard work. Which is the reason I didn’t add that to my list. Putting my thoughts to lists is comforting to me, but I totally see your point. I still need to cross them off. But, at least they are on paper and not clouding my vision for the moment. πŸ™‚
I love to read. That is a comfort. I also play three games on my phone. These distractions are necessary at times. πŸ™‚
