Communication

In what ways do you communicate online?

By far, I prefer face to face communication. Too many messages can be misconstrued otherwise. But to answer the question:

I host a bunch of Facebook pages. This, I know, it’s a bit excessive. I have my personal page, Author Kaci Rigney, Kaci Rigney Poet, and Kaci Rigney Singer/Songwriter. I have a private Facebook poetry page for friends who like poetry and want to learn how to write it, as well as two family pages in which I am the administrator. I belong to several Facebook groups for writing fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and music where I learn and hopefully encourage others.

Although I have Instagram, X, Threads, YouTube, and LinkedIn pages, I don’t often post there.

Most of my writing communication is here and on Substack.

Otherwise, I email, text, direct message, have Zoom calls, video chats, or phone calls.

I think that covers it.

I love people – seeing them smile, hearing them laugh, receiving and giving hugs. Can’t really make and keep friends if you don’t communicate in some way or another. I prefer face to face.

Let’s have coffee.

  1. I too prefer face to face. I discovered when I left intentional isolation to get back out in the world that face to face interaction has become compartmentalized. I am going to talk about interaction with other Christians within my church. I go to the 9am service on Sunday. I then go to the adult Sunday School class and the people who sat together in the sanctuary do not sit together in SS. In fact I don’t even see them interacting with each other at all once they are in the next activity. I belong to 2 women’s small groups. Some of the same ladies belong to both. There are 2 gals who sit by me every week in the Tuesday group but when the other group meets those 2 ladies sit with 2 other different ladies. Now it is not just the sitting. It is the conversing too. In one group me and those 2 ladies talk together every Tuesday but when that other group meets and when the 3 of us are at the other group it is not even like we just had kept each other company prior. I dread saying that face to face even in the 55+ age groups are still incredibly cliquish and that is really sad. So, with that said most of my interactions are via the internet, mostly FB.

  2. Kaci, if you see me subscribing to your site on more than one occasion, it’s because for some reason every time I come back to check it out I realize that I am not subscribed anymore πŸ˜…πŸ€πŸ€”. Just wanted to give you a head’s up about that πŸ‘πŸ˜„

  3. I agree with you πŸ’―πŸ‘πŸ˜„. I prefer face to face too but the alternatives do come in handy especially for long distance and logistical challenges which online communications are far more capable at these days lol
