Prompt from d’VersePoets: Silence; a quadrille, a 44 word poem.
About sixteen years ago, Kev and I went through devasting losses that lasted off and on for four plus years. One thing after another, after another, after another. Kev did his best to help me cope. As I wrote this poem today, it was difficult to look back for most of it still haunts me. If I think of it long, I spiral; so today, while I glance back, I focus on the present, and the blessings we share now.
Silence
I don’t say a word.
I just can’t.
If I open my mouth,
I tell you, I’ll scream.
Can’t help it.
The loss is too much.
I can’t bear.
I stare out the window
Of the car, aching in
A heart-wrenching
World of Silence.

Devastating losses – somehow they are always there. Memories pop up unexpectedly……or one deliberately decides to look back at photo albums. The urge to scream a primal scream is heard in the head, even if not screamed aloud. That is the silence of deep grief.
I am so sorry for your losses. You’ve written a beautiful post – a powerful post – and your words are visceral in their feelings.

Very touching and heartfelt! Good for you for making it through, I know it is not easy to keeping it together when many would have gone their own way!
